Striped Accents

So, you have a blank wall in a room and have no idea what to do with it? Of course you can always paint it with an accent color...but why not take it a step further and paint an accent color in a striped pattern!!! This has been one of the most popular trends for a while now, and it looks like it's not leaving anytime soon. You can paint stripes thin, thick, horizontal, vertical, and the newest trend...chevron stripes! Here are few examples of how you can paint striped accents in your room.
1. "Greige" colored stripes used around the entire room creates a great focal feature. It also makes the room look a little larger the way the stripes are painted horizontally. (This is one of my bestie's nursery she and her husband created for their baby girl...isn't it beyond adorable!!!). Click here for more pictures.
2. Thin vertical stripes accent the wall behind a sofa. They also make the room feel taller because they're painted veritcally. Click here for more pictures.
3. Gold stripes in a dining room give this room a classy, and elegant look. This just proves that you can use stripes in any style of room: contemporary, transistional, and elegant. It just depends on the paint color of choice and how you apply it. Click here for more.
4. If you feel a little more adventurous and want to take it a step further, chevron stripes are the newest trend. It adds a touch of geometric pattern in a room and acts as a great accent for a wall behind a bed, sofa, or perhaps an entry wall. Why not give it a try? Bonfire Night

Now, we know it's the middle of January and all...but hey, we live in beautiful Southern California, so why wouldn't we not enjoy a bonfire night at the beach, right? I mean, the coldest the temperature dropped that night was only 63 degrees. That's right...ABOVE 50 degrees...be jealous East Coasters...haha. A group of our ministry members and families got together to enjoy a beautiful night at the Coronado fire pits. We enjoyed the night getting to know new members, catching up from the holidays, and snacking on delicious s'mores and brownies. Thank you Bernice for setting up the event! We look forward to the next one!

Toys for Joy

Last month, before the Christmas holidays, The Rock Church's Toys for Joy organization asked our ministry if we would be interested in helping them set-up for the big event by using our creativity to show holiday spirit. Now, if you're not familiar with Toys for Joy, lets just say it's one of the biggest events that The Rock Church looks forward to every year. The Rock partners with various businesses, schools, and organizations to gather toys, food, and clothing for local families in need. This years event was held at Abraham Lincoln High School in City Heights with over 6,000 toys donated, 130,000 articles of clothing, and 12,000 bags of groceries.
Volunteers from our ministry got together with Toys for Joy volunteers and went to Lincoln High School the evening before the event and we only had 4 hours to get the gymnasium decorated and all toys unpacked. It was a rather ambitious task, but we all worked together to get it done! Below are a few pictures what the end result was! Thank you to everyone who participated!

Thank you to everyone who donated Christmas decorations for this event!

Our First Makeover

After about two months of preparation, the weekend had arrived for our first ministry makeover! We were so excited and blessed that Michele Kassa had given us the opportunity to makeover her 5 bedroom, 3 bath foster home. Michele serves as The Rock Church's Deaf Ministry leader, as well as serving as the only foster care home for deaf & special needs teens in the San Diego County. She has served so much in the deaf community, as well as the community at The Rock Church, and we were so excited to create a warm and organized home for her and her family.
Her home houses 6 foster teens, weekly bible studies and small group meetings, as well as many friends and family visiting. Our ministry volunteered over 1,000  hours of preparation for two months from organization, to cleaning, to space planning and designing. During the four day weekend of the makeover, we had over 50 volunteers participate and work over 650 hours!!! We were so blessed with the awesome turn out from volunteers! They helped us move out furniture, move in furniture, paint walls, paint furniture, assemble furniture, dust/clean/vacuum, clean paint brushes....pretty much anything you can think of. After three days of hard work, it was time for Michele and the kids to come back home for the big reveal and we were all so excited!!! We gave them the whole tour of the space and they LOVED it!!! We were so blessed and so thankful for everyone's help during this makeover and we couldn't have completed it without your help! Thank you to all the volunteers!!!
Below are a few pictures of the makeover results and a short film that Rock TV created during the makeover weekend. Check out our "Makeovers" page for the full slideshow of pictures.
